Why do I need a driver's license?

-A must-have item for campus life with new friends.
・You are already a college student. You can definitely use it while returning home or at home.
・A driver's license serves as a lifelong qualification and an identification card.
・Guidance may be required as a condition for employment.
・It is a must-have item especially for sales jobs, and it is not a problem even if you are working in a local area, being seconded to work, going on a business trip, or being transferred.
・Once you have a child, you will need it for shopping and transporting them to nursery school, etc.
・For caring for grandparents, picking up and dropping off, etc. In addition, in an aging society, it is essential especially when going out and shopping.

Obtaining a license after graduating from high school, vocational school, or university is difficult!

Nowadays, having a driver's license is a natural qualification.
If you are thinking about getting it someday, we highly recommend getting it while you are still a student. However, college students are also busy. In addition, in the upper grades, students have less time to spare due to practical training, research, internship training, job hunting, etc.
We recommend that you take the course during your 1st or 2nd year, when you have relatively more time.

When getting a driver's license, there is a surprisingly long amount of training time, and there is a set timetable for the subject, so you need to fit it in. If you don't proceed efficiently, you will end up having to go to driving school more often.
After graduating from university, it will be difficult to be flexible with your time, so it is recommended that you obtain it while you are still a student.

need

Which should I choose, AT or MT?

In conclusion, I don't think there is any inconvenience at all even if you have an AT license.
The training time is 34 hours for MT cars, and 31 hours and 3 hours shorter for AT cars.
Also, although it varies depending on the driving school, generally the price for 3 periods is often 10,000 to 30,000 yen.
In 2016, the ratio of MT/AT cars at driving schools nationwide was 42%:58%. (From driver's license statistics)
This figure is for both boys and girls, but 70% of schools in urban areas use AT cars and 30% use MT cars.
Also, for women, just under 80% drive AT cars and just over 20% drive MT cars.

for

Please tell me the difference between AT and MT cars and the training hours for each.

AT = automatic transmission (automatic transmission)
Since it is usually operated with the right foot with only two pedals, the accelerator pedal and the brake pedal, it is easy to operate and has become mainstream in many cars.
The training time is
Driving Lessons 1st stage 12 hours, 2nd stage 19 hours, total 31 hours (minimum training period)
Subject training: 10 periods in the 1st stage, 16 periods in the 2nd stage, 26 periods in total.

MT = manual transmission (manual transmission)
In addition to the accelerator pedal, the brake pedal, and the clutch pedal, you use both feet to operate the pedals.
Compared to AT cars, there are more clutch pedals, so you have to use your left foot to operate them, but you can choose your own gears, so you can enjoy driving.
The training time is
Driving Lessons 1st stage 15 hours, 2nd stage 19 hours, total 34 hours (minimum training period)
Subject training: 10 periods in the 1st stage, 16 periods in the 2nd stage, 26 periods in total.

If I get a license for an AT car and then need a license for a MT car, do I have to start over from the beginning?

There is a method called "AT restriction release".
You can graduate from the driving school after completing 4 hours of Driving Lessons and passing the skills test.
If you go to the license center, the restrictions will be removed from your regular car license and you will be able to drive a manual transmission car.

For application procedures, please contact each driving school directly by telephone or other means to inquire and apply.

[Application] I am only 17 years old. When can I start attending?

You can enter the school even if you are 17 years old and can start lessons.
Although it depends on the driving school, you can enroll from 1 to 3 months before your 17th birthday.
In the case of a regular driver's license, you cannot proceed further unless you are 18 years old at the time you obtain a provisional license for road lessons.

Spring break is the busiest season of the year for students looking to get a job or go on to higher education.
If you can make plans in advance, we recommend that you complete your application two months in advance.

Walking, bicycle/motorcycle, train, or shuttle bus?

If the time and route suit you, there's no reason not to use it!
Of course, you can also use it when previewing the driving school.

About admission/training

I heard that there is a deadline for training.

There is a deadline for the lessons, and it will be 9 months from the time you take the first subject you take after entering the school, Preliminary Subject 1.
Provisional licenses also have an expiry date of 6 months from the time they are obtained.
However, obtaining a provisional license does not extend the training period by six months.

How long does it take to graduate?

If you can attend on weekdays, it will take 1 and a half to 2 months, and if you only attend on weekends, it will take about 3 months on average.
Some driving schools also have short-term plans, and it is possible to obtain the certification within one month.
However, during summer and spring vacations, driving schools are crowded, so it may take longer than the above.

Is all training for MT license conducted in MT cars?

I drive both. The training curriculum includes practice with AT cars, so once you get your driver's license, you will be able to drive either type of car without any problems.

Can I change my lesson from a MT car to an AT car?

We have applied for a manual transmission car and given training for a manual car, but we sometimes get people who say, ``It's really difficult, so I want to change to an automatic transmission car!''
In that case, it is also possible to change to an AT car halfway through the journey.
However, please note that it is not possible to change from AT to MT during the lesson.

How many hours of lessons can I take in a day?

Driving Lessons can be taken for up to 2 hours in the first stage and 3 hours in the second stage.
There is basically no time limit for taking academic courses.

Is there a separate fee to bring my child to school for the fee listed on the website?

Please bring the temporary license application fee of 2,850 yen (tax exempt) directly to the school.
Additionally, additional fees may be required depending on the driving school. Please check the school page for details.

Are there any rules regarding the registered address on the resident card?

It doesn't matter where you register your residence card. You can enroll and graduate from a driving school in any prefecture nationwide.
However, the final Honen (Certificate) Examination will be taken at a driver's license examination center under the jurisdiction of the Public Safety Commission of the prefecture where you are registered as a resident.
It is best to transfer your resident card to the district where you wish to take the test in advance.
Specifically, you first submit a ``notification of moving out'' to your new address at the government office where you are registered as a resident.
Next, take the document to the office where you currently live.
We will carry out the "transfer procedure". If the area where you are currently registered as a resident is far away, it is a good idea to ask your family to send you a notification of change of residence.

Anxiety/Glossary/Others

[Before entering school] I am worried about whether I can keep up with the lessons. Are the lessons tough?

Particularly in Driving Lessons, there are many one-on-one lessons. Many of the instructors at the training camp speak their dialects, and some may think that they were being reprimanded, even though they themselves did not think so.
On the other hand, if your attitude towards taking lessons or your behavior is not good, you may be severely reprimanded.
Through lessons, instructors not only teach safe driving techniques, but also a safe driving mindset and dangerous driving maneuvers that can take lives, so instructors take their lessons very seriously.
Let's think about the trainees and accept that there is strict guidance.

school

[Before entering the school] I usually live without glasses and do not own them, but I am worried whether my eyesight will meet the requirements for entering the school.

For regular car licenses, Regular Motorcycle, and Heavy Motorcycle, one eye must be 0.3 or higher and both eyes must be 0.7 or higher (glasses and contacts can be used).
For large vehicle licenses and towing, the visual acuity requirement is 0.5 or above in one eye and 0.8 or above in both eyes (glasses and contacts may be used. Depth vision test will be conducted).
If you do not meet the requirements during the vision test after entering the school, you will not be able to enter the school, so if you have any concerns, please visit an ophthalmologist in advance to measure your current vision.
If you do not meet the requirements, please prepare glasses and contacts for the first day of school.

[Before enrolling] What should I be especially careful about during the enrollment procedures?

At every driving school, academic timetables are set on a weekly or monthly basis.
Get it early so you can coordinate it with your schedule and proceed efficiently.

[Before enrolling] I am going to the driving school for the first time, what kind of preparation should I do?

①What are the reception hours for initial admission procedures?
②When are your regular holidays?
③What is the training time for skills and subjects?
It varies depending on the driving school. There are a variety of ways to respond, such as where regular holidays are fixed, and reception hours and training hours differ between weekdays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
Furthermore, if you check the timetables of the departments in advance, you will be able to proceed efficiently with the entrance procedures at the driving school, orientation, aptitude tests, and the preceding departments.

Driving

What does Anshin Course mean?

Recommended for those who are not confident in driving a car... !
For Driving Lessons, if the specified number of hours is exceeded, an additional skill fee will be charged for each period of skill training.
If you use the optional plan ``Anshin Course'', there will be no additional charge for Driving Lessons even if you exceed the limit.
This plan is for those who are concerned about Driving Lessons. However, a separate reissuance fee will be required when applying for Karimenkyo Written Test.

What are the challenge course and safe course?

Simply put, a challenge course is a course with no guarantees. The safe course varies depending on the driving school, but it is a course that comes with a guarantee.
The guarantee relates to Driving Lessons, skill testing, and accommodation. There are also differences in participation fees depending on the guarantee content. Challenge courses without guarantees are cheaper.

What is the number of available time limits for Driving Lessons reservations?

This is the maximum number of time slots that can be reserved.
For example, if you have 8 hours available, you can make reservations for up to 8 hours.
If you board the train for one of those eight hours, the remaining reservation will be for seven hours, so you can make a reservation for the one hour you have left.
In other words, the more you have at any given time, the more reservations you can make, which means the smoother your lessons will be.

What do the terms "stage-by-stage" and "all-in-one training until graduation" mean for Driving Lessons?

Furthermore, there are many time slots in which skills can be reserved, and short-term acquisition is also possible.
Driving Lessons is divided into two stages: training within the driving school (first stage) and training on public roads (second stage).
If the skill reservation content is "all at once for each stage" or "all at once until graduation", you can make more skill reservations.
You can obtain your license in a shorter period of time than with the regular plan.
During busy periods, we may be fully booked and may not be able to make a reservation for your desired date.
If there are many available time slots, you can make reservations in advance, making it possible to obtain reservations in a relatively short period of time.
*Reservation methods vary depending on the driving school.
Also, depending on the time of year (especially from January to March), it may be difficult to get technical reservations as desired.

What is supplementary lessons?

If, at the end of the shortest period of time, the instructor determines that the student does not have the skills to take and pass the test, extended training will be required. The extra time will be supplementary training.
If you take a test and fail, you will not be able to take the next test until you have spent at least one hour learning about the reasons for your failure. This lesson will also be supplementary.

What is Driving Test (Shuken)?

This refers to the skill test among the tests taken to obtain Driver's License.
The training is broadly divided into the first and second stages, and each stage includes academic training, written exams, and Driving Lessons /skill exams.
Driver's License is required to proceed from the first stage to the second stage, and Driving Test is one of the tests taken to obtain Driver's License.
For this reason, Driving Test will not be conducted for restricted training, motorcycles, large special vehicles, and towing, where there are no stages in the training.
In addition, for vehicles that have stages of training, and the age column of the entrance qualification states that ``must be 18 years of age or older by the time of Driving Test'', legal training is required at the time of Driving Test, not at the time of graduation. must be of the age of

What is Final Driving Test (graduation test)?

This is a skill test that is taken in order to graduate from a driving school when obtaining a driver's license.
If you pass Final Driving Test, you will be issued a graduation certificate (certificate of exemption from the skill test).
You will be issued a driver's Driver's License by bringing your graduation certificate to the driver's license exam center or driver's license center in the area where you have your residence card within one year of your graduation date and passing the written exam.
The reason why the entry qualification states "You must be 18 years of age or older by the time of the graduation Final Driving Test" is stated in the entry qualification for motorcycles, large special vehicles, and towing, where there are no stages in the training. This is because it is the final exam.
