Are there any vacancies for Driving Camp during long holidays? Things to note when booking!

During long holidays such as summer vacation and spring vacation, there are many people who want to participate in Driving Camp, and reservations fill up early. Here are some points to keep in mind when applying for Driving Camp during such long holidays.

  • Make your reservations early for spring and summer vacations
  • There is also a way to wait for cancellations
  • During busy periods, it may take longer to graduate.

We will explain each point in detail.

Make your reservations for spring break from October to December and for summer break from April to June.

During long holidays such as spring and summer vacations, available slots fill up quickly and rooms become unavailable. Especially for popular Driving Camp, if you are late in booking, it will be difficult to reserve the date, time and room type you want.

Generally, spring break Driving Camp start taking reservations in October, and even if there are still slots available in October, the slots decrease rapidly around the end of November, and there are cases where you cannot get the plan you want. 80% of the slots are sold out by the end of the year, so if you are going to Driving Camp during spring break, it is recommended that you make your reservation from October, or at the latest by December.

Reservations for summer Driving Camp start in April, and by June, about 80% of the camps are sold out. If you want to attend Driving Camp during the summer vacation, it's best to make your reservation between April and June.

In addition, there are few Driving Camp school camps in the Kyushu area, and the slots tend to fill up quickly. If you want to use Driving Camp during the spring vacation season, it is recommended that you start looking for a driving school from October, and if you want to go during the summer vacation season, start looking from around March, and check the information frequently.

"Do-Live" is a convenient way to search for Driving Camp. You can take advantage of site-exclusive discounts and search for driving school camps by region, so it's perfect for people who want to use Driving Camp in Kyushu.

If you're looking for Driving School with a training camp, try "Do-Live"

We introduce Driving Camp plans from approximately 120 schools nationwide. Find the perfect Driving School for you with Do-Live!

If you really want to go to Driving Camp, you can try to get on the waiting list for cancellations.

If you really want to use this training camp or you really can't go to the training camp until this week, you can try to get on the waiting list for cancellations. For example, if you are reserving for spring break, cancellations may come up around January, and you may be able to get into an open slot.

However, please keep in mind that this is only a cancellation waiting list, so there is no guarantee, and that the accommodation or room you want may not be available.

This would be a last resort, but if you really want to go to Driving Camp at this time, please refer to the following article.

During busy periods Estimated Graduation Date may be extended.

Although it varies depending on the driving school, the minimum number of days required for Driving Camp is as follows:

  • AT only: 14 days minimum
  • MT only: 16 days minimum

However, during busy periods such as spring and summer vacations, driving schools can be crowded and it may take longer to graduate. This is because during these periods, not only the number of students attending training camps but also the number of students attending classes on a regular basis increases.

Unlike attending classes at a training camp, you do not have to make your own lesson reservations, so even if it is busy, you will not have to worry about not being able to make a reservation and the duration will not be extended.

However, because there are not enough instructors and staff to handle the increased number of students, some driving schools set the period longer than in the off-season to allow for some leeway. Therefore, even if a driving school normally advertises "AT shortest 14 days" or "MT shortest 16 days," there are cases where Estimated Graduation Date is extended by 2 to 3 days during the busy season, so be sure to apply with this in mind.

When is the cheapest time to Driving Camp in Kyushu? Prices go up in February and March!

For those who want to take Driving Camp in Kyushu but want to keep costs as low as possible, we will explain in detail the periods when the cost of Driving Camp is cheaper and more expensive, and how much the prices differ.

The most expensive season is spring break, followed by summer vacation

Prices are cheapest from late March to the end of June and from September to the end of December. Prices are the most expensive during the spring holidays in February and March. Prices are next most expensive during the summer holidays in July and August.

Especially from February to March, high school students about to graduate and university students who want to get a license in preparation for employment use their spring break to participate in Driving Camp. This is the busy season, and prices go up.

How much does the price change for Driving Camp in Kyushu between the off-season and peak season?

Let's compare how much the prices differ between the off-season and peak seasons. The average prices of the five Kyushu Driving Camp school camps for the off-season and peak seasons are as follows:

[Off season (December)]

  • Regular AT: Approximately 270,000 yen
  • Regular MT: Approximately 290,000 yen
  • Regular Motorcycle manual transmission: Approx. 180,000 yen

[Peak season (February to March)]

  • Regular AT: Approx. 350,000 yen
  • Standard MT: Approx. 370,000 yen
  • Regular Motorcycle manual transmission: Approximately 200,000 yen

In addition, if you attend a Driving Camp course, you will be charged an additional 2,850 yen for the provisional license test fee and provisional license issuance fee regardless of the time of year. Also, some driving schools may charge additional fees (approximately 10,000 yen).

Comparing the rates during the off-season and peak seasons, we can see that during the spring break season from February to March, when student use is concentrated, rates will be approximately 80,000 yen higher for a standard car license, both automatic and manual, and approximately 20,000 yen higher for Regular Motorcycle license (MT).

If you want to get Driving Camp in Kyushu at a driving school as cheaply as possible, we recommend December, which is the off-season.

Shared rooms are recommended for those who want to keep costs down

Among the Driving Camp plans, the cheapest plan is to use a shared room. If you use a twin or single room, it will cost 10,000 to 20,000 yen more, so if you want to keep costs down, we recommend using a shared room.

If you want to keep costs to a minimum, you may want to check out the following article:

Make a reservation with "Early Bird" and "Group" discounts

If you want to take part in Driving Camp as cheaply as possible, but can only schedule it during spring or summer vacation, you can take advantage of the various discount services offered by each driving school, such as early bird discounts, group discounts, and student discounts.

The main discount services are as follows:

  • Early bird discount: If you make a reservation 1-2 months or more before enrollment, you will receive a discount on the fee.
  • Group discount: Multiple people can apply at the same time to receive a discount.
  • Student discount: High school, university, and vocational students can receive a discount by showing their student ID upon enrollment.

Many places allow you to combine discount services, so you can reduce your cost by being creative and making reservations early for multiple students or sharing a room with friends.

However, some driving schools do not offer early bird, group, or student discounts, so be sure to check. Also, the detailed applicable conditions (such as period of use and vehicle type) vary depending on the driving school, so be sure to check here as well to see if they apply to you.

Five points to know when choosing a training camp in Kyushu

Here are some points to keep in mind when choosing Driving Camp in Kyushu:

  • price
  • Accommodation facility
  • Meals
  • surrounding environment
  • activity

The closer your accommodation is to the driving school, the easier it will be to commute to school every day. If your accommodation is far from the school, check whether a shuttle bus or free bicycle rentals are available.

It is also important that your accommodation has Wi-Fi. If you have Wi-Fi, you can easily watch videos or study online, making it easier to kill time.

There are also various plans for meals, such as self-catering and 3 Meals Provided. If all meals are 3 Meals Provided, you won't have to pay extra for food and you won't have to go through the trouble of preparing it yourself. On the other hand, if you choose a plan that only includes one lunch meal or breakfast and dinner, you will have to go through the trouble and expense of preparing your own meals when they are not provided, but the plan price tends to be cheaper. If meals are not included, you can enjoy your favorite gourmet food while sightseeing.

In addition to restaurants, the surrounding environment is also important. It's a good idea to check whether there are convenience stores, bank ATMs, supermarkets, drugstores, hospitals, post offices, karaoke and hot spring facilities nearby where you can relax. Since you will be spending more than two weeks at a training camp, it is important that the environment is convenient and comfortable.

If you check out nearby tourist attractions and gourmet spots in advance, you can make the most of your free time and have fun.

When booking Driving Camp in Kyushu, be careful of the "cap on transportation expenses"!

In the case of Driving Camp, transportation costs are often paid as a "graduation bonus". However, the full amount is not always paid. Many people come from far away to participate in Driving Camp in Kyushu, but please note that there is a limit to the amount of transportation costs that can be paid.

If the maximum amount is exceeded, you will have to pay the extra transportation costs yourself. Please be aware that driving schools on remote islands may only provide a partial reimbursement or may not provide any reimbursement at all.

If you are coming from far away and will be gathering on the morning of the first day of the camp, you may need to stay the night before. For example, Kitaoka Driving School in Okinawa does not provide transportation expenses (as of July 2024). Also, since the gathering time is 9am, many people will need to stay the night before. In this case, the cost of the night before will also be at your own expense.

As you can see, it is necessary to find out how much it will cost including all expenses such as transportation and lodging the night before. Also, check in advance whether the driving school you want to go to will reimburse you for transportation expenses, and if so, what is the maximum amount and how much you will have to pay out of pocket.

Reservations for Driving Camp courses fill up early, so if there is a Driving Camp course you would like to use, try to make your reservation early.
