Why do I need a driver's license?
-An essential item for campus life with new friends.
・You are now a full-fledged college student. You can definitely make use of this when you are visiting your parents' home or at home.
・A driver's license serves as a lifetime qualification and identification.
- Mentoring may be included as a condition of employment.
- It is especially essential for those in sales positions, and will not cause any problems even if you are working in a rural area, on a secondment, on a business trip, or transferred.
-Once you have children, you will also need it for shopping and taking them to and from nursery school, etc.
- For caring for grandparents and taking them to and from work. In an aging society, it is also essential when going out and shopping.
It is difficult to obtain a driver's license after graduating from high school, vocational school, or university!
Nowadays, having a driver's license is a given.
If you are thinking of taking it someday, I would recommend that you obtain it while you are a student. However, university students are busy, too. In addition, as you get older, you will have even less time due to practical training, research, internships, job hunting, and so on.
We recommend taking this exam during your first or second year, when you have more time to spare.
The amount of time spent on lessons to get a driver's license is surprisingly large, and the theory part has a set timetable, so you need to follow that. If you don't study efficiently, you will end up having to go to the driving school many times.
It becomes more difficult to be flexible with your time once you graduate from university, so it is recommended that you obtain this qualification while you are a student.
Which should I choose, AT or MT?
To conclude, I don't think you will have any inconveniences even if you have an automatic transmission license.
The training hours are three hours shorter: 34 hours for manual transmission vehicles and 31 hours for automatic transmission vehicles.
Also, although it varies depending on the driving school, the general fee for three lessons is usually around 10,000 to 30,000 yen, which is usually cheaper.
In 2016, the ratio of MT cars to AT cars at driving schools nationwide was 42%:58%. (From Driver's License Statistics)
This figure applies to both boys and girls combined, but in urban schools, 70% of cars are automatic and 30% are manual.
Furthermore, for women, just under 80% drive automatic cars, while just over 20% drive manual cars.
Please tell me the difference between AT and MT cars and the training hours for each.
AT = Automatic transmission
It has only two pedals, the accelerator and brake, and is usually operated with the right foot, so it is easy to operate and has become the mainstream in many cars.
The lesson time is
Driving Lessons 12 hours for stage 1, 19 hours for stage 2, total 31 hours (minimum training hours)
There are 10 hours of theory training for the first stage and 16 hours for the second stage, for a total of 26 hours.
MT = Manual Transmission
In addition to the accelerator pedal and brake pedal, three pedals are operated using both feet: the clutch pedal.
Compared to automatic transmissions, there is an additional clutch pedal, so you will need to operate it with your left foot, but you can choose the gear yourself, which makes driving more fun.
The lesson time is
Driving Lessons 1st stage 15 hours, 2nd stage 19 hours, total 34 hours (minimum training hours)
There are 10 hours of theory training for the first stage and 16 hours for the second stage, for a total of 26 hours.
If I get a license for an AT car and then need a license for a MT car, do I have to start over from the beginning?
There is a method called "AT restriction release".
You can graduate from the driving school after passing four Driving Lessons and the practical test.
If you go to a driver's license center, the restrictions will be removed from your regular driver's license and you will be able to drive manual vehicles.

About admission/training
I heard that there is a deadline for training.
There is a deadline for the training, which is nine months from the time you take the first academic course you take after enrolling, [Preliminary Academic 1].
A provisional license is also valid for six months from the date of acquisition.
However, obtaining a provisional license does not extend your training period by six months.
How long does it take to graduate?
If you can attend on weekdays, it will take one and a half to two months, but if you can only attend on weekends, it will take an average of about three months.
Some driving schools offer short-term plans, making it possible to obtain your license within a month.
However, during summer and spring vacations, driving schools are crowded so it may take longer than the above.
Is all training for MT license conducted in MT cars?
I drive both. The training curriculum includes practice with AT cars, so once you get your driver's license, you will be able to drive either type of car without any problems.
Can I change my lesson from a MT car to an AT car?
Sometimes people apply for a manual transmission car and take manual transmission training, but then say, "It's too difficult, so I'd like to change to an automatic transmission!"
In this case, you can change to an automatic transmission midway through the trip.
However, please note that you cannot change from AT to MT during the lesson.
How many hours of lessons can I take in a day?
You can take up to two hours Driving Lessons in the first stage and up to three hours in the second stage.
There is generally no time limit for taking academic courses.
Is there a separate fee to bring my child to school for the fee listed on the website?
Please bring the provisional license application fee of 2,850 yen (tax exempt) directly to the school.
In addition, some driving schools may require additional fees. Please check the school page for details.
Are there any rules regarding the registered address on the resident card?
It doesn't matter where you are registered as a resident. You can enroll and graduate from a driving school in any prefecture in the country.
However, the final written test will be taken at a driver's license testing center under the jurisdiction of the Public Safety Commission of the prefecture in which you are registered as a resident.
It is advisable to transfer your residence registration to the area where you wish to take the exam in advance.
Specifically, you will first need to submit a "moving out notification" to the local government office where you are registered as a resident to move to your new address.
Next, take that document to the city hall where you currently live.
You will then need to complete the "moving in" procedure. If you are moving far away from the area where you are currently registered as a resident, it is a good idea to ask a family member to send you a moving out notification.
Anxiety/Glossary/Others
[Before entering school] I am worried about whether I can keep up with the lessons. Are the lessons tough?
Especially in Driving Lessons, there are many one-on-one lessons. Many instructors at training camps speak in their own dialect, and some students do not realize it and take it as a scolding.
On the other hand, if your attitude or behavior during lessons is poor, you may be severely reprimanded.
Through their lessons, instructors not only teach safe driving techniques, but also a safe driving mindset, as well as dangerous driving maneuvers that can take lives, so instructors take their lessons seriously.
Please be considerate of your students and accept that there will be strict guidance.
[Before entering the school] I usually live without glasses and do not own them, but I am worried whether my eyesight will meet the requirements for entering the school.
For regular car licenses, Regular Motorcycle, and Heavy Motorcycle, the minimum is 0.3 in one eye and 0.7 in both eyes (glasses and contact lenses are allowed).
The admission requirements for large vehicle licenses and towing licenses are a visual acuity of 0.5 or above in one eye and 0.8 or above in both eyes (glasses and contact lenses are permitted. Depth perception tests are required).
If you do not meet the requirements for the vision test after enrollment, you will not be able to enroll. If you have any concerns, please go to an eye doctor in advance to have your current vision measured.
If you do not meet the requirements, please bring your own glasses or contact lenses with you on the day of enrollment.
[Before enrolling] What should I be especially careful about during the enrollment procedures?
Every driving school has a weekly and monthly schedule for academic lessons.
Be sure to get it early so you can fit it into your schedule and proceed efficiently.
[Before enrolling] I am going to the driving school for the first time, what kind of preparation should I do?
①What time does the initial admission procedure take place?
②When are your regular holidays?
3) How many hours are there for practical and theoretical training?
It depends on the driving school. Some schools have set holidays, while others have different reception and lesson times on weekdays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
Furthermore, if you check the academic class schedule in advance, you can efficiently proceed through the enrollment procedures, orientation, aptitude tests, and advanced academic classes at the driving school.
What does Anshin Course mean?
Recommended for those who are not confident in driving a car!!
If Driving Lessons training hours, an additional practical training fee will be charged for each lesson.
If you also use the optional plan "Peace of Mind Course", there will be no additional charge for Driving Lessons even if you exceed the limit.
This plan is for those who are unsure about Driving Lessons. However, you will need to pay a separate fee for reissuing your provisional license when applying for Karimenkyo Written Test.
What are the challenge course and safe course?
Simply put, the challenge course is a course that has no guarantees. The peace of mind course is a course that has guarantees, although this varies depending on the driving school.
The guarantee applies to Driving Lessons, skill test, and accommodation. Also, the participation fee differs depending on the guarantee content. The challenge course without the guarantee is cheaper.
What is the number of available time limits for Driving Lessons reservations?
This is the maximum number of times a reservation can be made.
For example, if you have "8 classes available," you can make reservations for up to 8 classes.
If you ride one of the eight time slots, the remaining reservations will be reduced to seven time slots, so you can make a reservation for the remaining one time slot.
In other words, the more vehicles we have on hand at any one time, the more reservations we can make, which means the smoother your lessons will go.
What do the terms "stage-by-stage" and "all-in-one training until graduation" mean for Driving Lessons?
In addition, there are many time slots available for reserving skills, making it possible to acquire skills in a short period of time.
Driving Lessons is divided into two stages: training at a driving school (first stage) and training on public roads (second stage).
If you choose the "Step by Step" or "All at Once until Graduation" plan, you can make more skill reservations.
You can get your license in a shorter time than with the regular plan.
During busy periods, the restaurant may be fully booked and you may not be able to make a reservation on the day you want.
If there are a large number of reservation time slots available, you can make a reservation in advance, making it possible to obtain the facility for a relatively short period of time.
*Reservation methods vary depending on the driving school.
Also, depending on the season (especially January to March), it may be difficult to make the skill reservations you wish to make.
What is supplementary lessons?
If the instructor determines that you have not yet reached the level of ability to pass the test after the minimum time limit has been reached, extended lessons will be required.
If you fail the test, you will not be able to take the next test until you have had at least one hour of instruction on the reason for your failure. This instruction time will also be considered as supplementary instruction.
What is Driving Test (Shuken)?
This refers to the practical test that you take to obtain Driver's License.
The training is broadly divided into two stages, the first and second, and each stage consists of written training/written exam and Driving Lessons /practical exam.
To progress from the first stage to the second stage, you will need Driver's License, and Driving Test is one of the tests you must take to obtain Driver's License.
Therefore, Driving Test are not conducted for restricted vehicles, motorcycles, large special-purpose vehicles, and towing vehicles, which do not have a staged training course.
In addition, for models that have stages in their training and in the age column for enrollment eligibility states "You must be 18 years of age or older by the time of Driving Test," you must reach the legal age at the time of Driving Test, not at the time of graduation.
What is Final Driving Test (graduation test)?
This is a practical test taken to graduate from driving school and obtain a driver's license.
If you pass Final Driving Test, you will be issued a graduation certificate (certificate of exemption from practical exams).
Within one year of your graduation date, you can take your graduation certificate to a driver's license testing center or driver's license center in your area and pass the written test for the full license to be issued a driver's Driver's License.
There are no stages in the training for unrestricted vehicles, motorcycles, large special-purpose vehicles, and towing, and the enrollment qualifications state that "you must be 18 years of age or older by the time of Final Driving Test." This is because this is the final exam until graduation from the driving school.
